Expedeon's NVoy technology is a quantum leap in protein processing, production and analysis as our polymers enhance protein solubility and stability through the formation of multi-point reversible complexes with proteins without altering their structure.
NVoy offers an alternative to the use of detergents, fusion proteins, chaperones and the myriad of other techniques employed to overcome common problems faced when working with proteins, enzymes and antibodies in solution. Its generic nature allows it to be applied throughout the whole protein production process.

NVoy is a linear carbohydrate based polymer of 5 kDa molecular weight. NVoy chemical modification through the addition of selected hydrophobic molecules at specific residues to give the polymers a hydrophobic face, making them extremely amphipathic. The polymers are uncharged so will not affect existing purification methodologies, and are highly pH stable (pH's 2 to 11)
The inherent characteristics of these NV molecules enables them to associate with any surface exposed hydrophobicity on proteins via a Velcro-like, multipoint association, masking the hydrophobic patches and exposing the hydrophillic NV backbone to the solvent. The association is very weak (Kd = 28 uM for GFP and 12 uM for hexokinase) and is completely reversible with it being easy to totally remove NVoy from the sample when no longer needed. NVoy does not disrupt the structure of the protein or block active sites due to its large size (5 kDa) and hydrodynamic radius (c.a. 18 kDa).

Using NVoy, proteins are protected and stabilised against aggregation enabling the processing of difficult to handle proteins at high concentrations under conditions that would usually result in the formation of useless aggregates.

MOST FREQUENT APPLICATIONS OF NVoy:
- Preventing fusion proteins dropping out of solution after the fusion partner is cleaved or removed
- Increasing the concentration of a modestly soluble protein so that it can be worked with more easily
- Replacing detergents which are more difficult to remove downstream and affect analysis of the protein
- Minimising protein losses during purification strategies
- As a generic, but highly effective, protein refolding tool
- In HTS assays to keep proteins happy and reduce non-specific binding
- Keepin proteins soluble that usually require a ligand to be present
- keeping proteins soluble at elevated concentrations and often for extended periods of time to allow analysis by NMR, CD, MS, crystallisation
