FRET, or Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer, is a powerful technique dependent on the distance dependent transfer of energy from a donor molecule to an acceptor molecule. FRET can therefore identify molecular interactions by measuring the loss of fluorescence of the donor or gain of fluorescence of the acceptor. It can be used in a wide range of applications, including microscopy, flow cytometry and ELISA; specifically designed to identify molecular interactions as part of drug discovery research programmes.
